Abreva Cold Sore Treatment Review

Abreva Cold Sore Treatment is sold over the counter as a non-prescription medication. It's FDA approved and claims that it will shorten the healing time for cold sores and fever blisters.

Abreva Cold Sore Treatment comes in a small 2.0 gram little tube and sells for approximately $15. The directions say to apply the cold sore cream 5 times a day at the first sign of the tingling sensation of a new sore, until it is healed.

If you suffer from cold sores as I do, you know what a pain they can be, and I mean that literally. I get them infrequently, but when one does come on, I need a cold sore medicine that will work, and work quickly. It's bad enough to get a cold sore to start with, but to also spend money on medicine that doesn't work is another story.

I have to say that overall I was disappointed with the Abreva Cold Sore Treatment. Here is why.

  • The packaging for the Abreva Cold Sore Treatment is difficult to open at best. No one is going to get inside the package without a good pair of scissors to be sure. Once you do finally get to the tube, it's so tiny that it is hard for people with larger hands to use.

  • Abreva did not shorten the burning and pain of my cold sore for several days. In fact, it was close to a week before the pain went away. Prescription cold sore medicine is much faster than this.

  • Using the Abreva Cold Sore Treatment did nothing to stop, shorten, or heal my cold sore quickly. I was very disappointed. Don't misunderstand me, my cold sore did eventually go away, so the product does work in my opinion, but it took much longer compared to other cold sore medicines I've used.

  • After applying Abreva for 10 days, I ran out, so I think you'll go through it much faster than you really should. Thankfully, my cold sore healed so I didn't have to shell out more money on another tube.

I know that many people swear by using the Abreva Cold Sore Treatment, and I'm happy that the product works for them. Unfortunately, I can't say it's the best cold sore treatment available. I would not rate it very high in comparison to other cold sore medicines that are available.
